Adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 “Anniversary” edition

The Adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 “Anniversary” is the sneaker maker’s way of celebrating the launch of the original Boost sneaker five years ago. What makes so special about the newest kicks from the Adidas’ Boost family? If you take more time to look at the pictures closely, you’ll be hard pressed to find or see anything extraordinary or special about it. But you will be able to appreciate the “Anniversary” edition once you get to know its back story.

Back in February 2013, Adidas launched the Energy Boost, its first-ever Boost-cushioned sneaker. Five years later, Adidas managed to go neck-and-neck with the dominant Nike, and especially its Air Jordan brand. Adidas claimed the #2 spot in the US sneakers market and became one of the coolest brands among sneakerheads. And it’s all because of the “Boost” technology, and this is where really Adidas broke ground.

On the Boost’s fifth year anniversary, Adidas brought lauched the Ultra Boost as part of its exclusive three-shoe “Anniverary Pack.” Aside form the Ultra Boost shoe, also included in the “Anniversary Pack” are the Energy Boost and the Energy Boost OG models that were also integral to the success and popularity of the Boost.

The Adidas Ultra Boost “Anniversary” was officially launched on February 1, 2018 and debuted at a retail price of $180 a pair.

While the silhouettes of the original Energy Boost and the current Ultra Boost are practically similar to one another, the most obvious difference between the two is the colorway. The Energy Boost has strong and bright yellow accents that run along the midsole and the word “boost” is printed in yellow.

The Ultra Boost 4.0 “Anniversary” edition, on the other hand, has an upper that is practically black with gray accents, and a white midsole. The only yellow things about the Ultra Boost are the Adidas logo at the tongue tab, the insoles and the lace tips, as well as the certain part of the outsole with the embossed words “Torsion System.” The Torsion System, by the way, is the Techfit technology which has been updated and improved for a more comfortable and snug fit. On the heel notch are the words “ultra boost.”

The Ultra Boost 4.0 “Anniversary” shoe evokes a totally “retro” aesthetic but with the modern shoe technology put in.
