Nike KD Trey 5 IV REVIEW: An Improved Outdoor Shoe

So after something like the Trey V III (not bad), here’s the latest release from KD’s outdoor line. I present you my Nike KD Trey V IV review. Let’s find out if it improved from the last one.

I’ll talk about the shoe’s tech specs, performance, comfort, materials and decide it it’s worth the price. Let’s start the Nike KD Trey V IV review!

SPEC SHEET

MY RATING: 7.5/10

THE TECH

ZOOM AIR & PHYLON

Same setup as on the previous one. A ZOOM AIR unit in the forefoot and a Phylon midsole. We’re not getting new tech from the cushioning perspective, but maybe it still improved? We’ll find out soon.

FIT

SUPER similar to the last Trey V. The upper is fairly rigid, so you’ll need to give ’em some break-in time. Other than that, the shoe is fairly comfortable, breathable, I didn’t experience any issues.

Not an option for wide footers (just as most KD’s shoes) since it’s a very rigid and narrow construction.

PERFORMANCE

CUSHION

This is where the Trey V III sucked and this is where the fourth one improves a BIT. Not a drastic improvement since it’s the exact same setup, but it still feels a bit better.

The forefoot area isn’t as terribly firm as a lot would think, the heel does offer a tiny amount of impact protection. Overall, I’d say it isn’t a great cushion setup, but it’s slightly softer than its predecessor and it’s a solid outdoor option.

TRACTION

Very similar to the last, but a bit better as well. The rubber compound is definitely durable and the pattern looks really aggressive. In result, you get awesome traction outdoors.

Indoors though, they do feel a bit weird and a bit sensitive to dust. If you’ll wipe often, this shouldn’t be a problem though.

SUPPORT

Once again, pretty much the same support as on the last one. The upper is stiff and tight and the fit is supportive, so you’ll feel confident and get a very supportive shoe to play in.

That does sacrifice mobility to some extent and I wouldn’t recommend the shoe for a super light guard for if you want that optimal performance.

MATERIALS

The upper is stiff mesh with some foam layers and Fuse for extra durability. Really nothing special and nothing new, but nothing bad either.

It’s a very durable and supportive setup. Not the most comfortable or mobile one and it needs some break-in time, but you’re getting what you’re paying for – and that’s basic outdoor shoe.

OVERALL

So the KD Trey V IV isn’t a revolutionary shoe that could be considered as a killer budget option or anything like that. Still, it’s a solid outdoor shoe that should keep you on your feet properly for several summers.

Fairly comfortable, great traction, decent cushion, great support and a basic upper.

+ GREAT AND DURABLE OUTDOOR TRACTION
+ SUPPORT IS THERE
+ A VERY RELIABLE OPTION
FAIR AMOUNT OF BREAK-IN TIME NEEDED
 SENSITIVE TRACTION THAT CLOGS UP

Okay, that’s it for the review! I hope you found it useful!
