Some of you are aware that the UA Clutchfit line is one of the most affordable AND versatile shoe lines out there. The latest release is the Low version of the third Clutchfit shoe, which is awesome since I liked the Mid. Low top fans, here’s a quick Under Armour Clutchfit Drive 3 Low review that will tell you the main differences between the two versions. That should help you decide if you prefer the Low, the Mid, or neither of the two at all.
Before checking this one out, I HIGHLY suggest taking a look at my initial Clutchfit Drive 3 review which is where all the main details about the base of the shoe are.
I’ll talk about the shoe’s tech specs, the fit, performance, the upper and decide it it’s worth the price. Let’s start the Under Armour Clutchfit Drive 3 Low review!
SPEC SHEET
WEIGHT: 385 g. / 13.58 oz
TYPE: LOW TOP
TECH: MICROG, CHARGED, CLUTCHFIT
FIT: TRUE TO SIZE
COLORWAYS: 8+
MY RATING: 8/10
THE TECH
MICROG & CHARGED
We have the identical cushion setup on the Low version which is a Charged crash pad in the heel with a full-length MicroG midsole. And on top of that, you get a nice, soft Ortholite insole for that extra bit if comfort and softness. A very nice setup, though felt the most by bigger guys.
CLUTCHFIT
The shoe’s upper material that is a 100% synthetic. But a very high-quality synthetic. More on that later.
FIT
SAME THING, JUST A BIT MORE FREE
So I felt in the Low pretty much just like in the Mid. Comfortable, soft, secure, no issues. Just the low ankle cut makes you feel a bit more free, obviously. And support doesn’t suffer because the Mid ankle collar is actually made of the same soft synthetic.
PERFORMANCE
CUSHION
The same setup – the same experience. Nothing really to complain about. A very nice and versatile setup. Charged gives you some response in the heel while the MicroG midsole provides bounce and energy.
Not the most bouncy/soft shoe I’ve played in but still really good.
TRACTION
The identical outsole which means that traction is literally the same. They grip the floor REALLY well and the rubber compound looks durable, so outdoor play is an option.
They have the same sensitivity, so be prepared to wipe from time to time if you’re on a dirty court. On clean courts, everything’s perfect.
SUPPORT
The same thing as on the Mid, so not heavy on the support side. Lockdown and containment were fine, there’s a nice wide base of the shoe, a midfoot shank and the fit itself is secure.
However, the Clutchfit upper isn’t a supportive one since it’s pretty soft and loose and there are barely any other support features on the shoe. So expect a very free, mobile experience that doesn’t hold you like a tank (D Rose 7, LeBron Soldier 9). Not my cup of tea since I need lots of support from a shoe but players that are less aggressive/heavy will still like these.
UPPER
THE SAME SWEET CLUTCHFIT
And the upper is also identical to the Mid, so the same awesome Clutchfit synthetic that provides great comfort, ventilation, and mobility. It’s fairly light and doesn’t restrict at all.
Because the fit is also nice, you get a quality combo consisting of a stable fit with a premium upper. Because it’s a Fuse-like synthetic, the shoe is durable. Not too supportive but the rest I’d say is awesome.
OVERALL
BEST FOR ANY POSITION PLAYER THAT DOESN’T NEED TOO MUCH SUPPORT
The Low didn’t bring any new things or changes from the Mid. But it’s still a great shoe with a lower price. What’s the reason to grab the Mid then? I don’t see one besides personal ankle cut preference.
+ A GREAT FIT
+ VERY SOLID CUSHION FOR MOST PLAYERS
+ GRIPPY & OUTDOOR-READY TRACTION
– WEAKER ON THE SUPPORT SIDE
– TRACTION IS SENSITIVE TO DUST
Okay, that’s it for the review! I hope you found it useful!
