I found the Curry 3 to be a good overall shoe and now we have a new but extremely similar looking edition of the shoe. So let’s do this one quick since there’s not much to go over. Here’s a quick Under Armour Curry 3ZERO review that will talk about the differences between the two.
So before you check this one out, look at the original Curry 3 review for a detailed description of how the initial shoe plays. And there’s also a Low version, so check that one out which I actually found better than the Mid.
I’ll talk about the shoe’s tech specs, the fit, performance, the upper and decide it it’s worth the price over the regular. Let’s start the Under Armour Curry 3ZERO review!
SPEC SHEET
WEIGHT: 425 G. / 15 OZ
TYPE: MID TOP
TECH: CHARGED, MICROG
FIT: TRUE TO SIZE
COLORWAYS: 2+
MY RATING: 8/10
THE TECH
CHARGED & MICROG
So according to Under Armour, the cushion setup is quite different. It’s a dual-density MicroG midsole with a Charged crash pad in the heel for a more balanced feel, more impact protection.
Whether it’s an improvement or not, find out in the performance section.
FIT
PRETTY MUCH THE SAME
So nothing really new in the fit area. Same comfortable fit, they are a bit roomy, so regular footers might want to go half a size down, but only if they want that super snug fit.
Other than that, it’s the same. Same break-in time needed, the same odd problem with the laces loosening up from time to time.
PERFORMANCE
CUSHION
The cushion setup is different on paper but I BARELY felt a difference. And that’s disappointing since I thought this is gonna be awesome with a MicroG midsole.
It seems like this MicroG is as firm as their Charged stuff recently. That Charged crash pad doesn’t really change much either. Mayyyyybe a tiny bit more softness in the heel but really nothing too noticeable.
TRACTION
The exact same outsole, the exact same performance. Grips the floor well as long as you keep them clean. They’re pretty durable for outdoors.
SUPPORT
This where you can spot a decent difference. The overall fit and support feel very similar because of the same fit and features. But there’s that ankle strap now which actually does improve the overall heel support and lockdown.
It’s a welcoming feature since I did feel a clear improvement in the heel area. You lace them up and the strap does it magically by locking your heel in nicely.
UPPER
IT’S MESH NOW
So the upper material went from premium to cheap. It’s now just strong mesh with Fuse overlays for durability.
However, don’t be afraid because fancy tech names don’t always win. The ThreadBorne & AnaFoam combo on the regular Curry 3 was awesome but the Curry3ZERO didn’t let me down with the more simple upper.
Sure, it’s not as balanced or flexible but the differences were minor. I still felt comfortable, contained and confident. It’s still a durable upper. If I really had to nitpick, then like I said, they weren’t as flexible and I didn’t feel that soft Threadborne knit. But other than that, the upper is fine.
FINAL VERDICT
BEST FOR LOW-PROFILE GUARDS
So the Curry 3ZERO didn’t bring new major features but it got a price decrease, a small upgrade in the support & lockdown areas and got a more basic upper that doesn’t really feel that much worse.
If you really targeted the Curry 3, if you like the fit, then go for the Curry 3ZERO. It’s a solid shoe.
+ RESPONSIVE CUSHION SETUP
+ GREAT SUPPORT & FANTASTIC ANKLE LOCKDOWN
+ DURABLE, TRACTION & UPPER FINE FOR OUTDOORS
– SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE BREAK-IN PERIOD
– TRACTION IS QUITE SENSITIVE TO DUST
– THE FIT IS A BIT TRICKY FOR ANY FOOT TYPE
Okay, that’s it for the review! I hope you found it useful!
There’s also a CURRY 3 LOW. That one is seriously a killer performer and may even be better than this one. Check the review out!
