Under Armour Curry 4 Low REVIEW: Changes from the Mid

After a very solid Curry 4 that introduced some interesting new things, we now have a low top version that may be an awesome option for fans of low tops. So if you’re one of them, here’s my Under Armour Curry 4 Low review where I will tell you all the differences between the two.

I’ll talk about the shoe’s tech specs, the fit, performance, the upper and decide if it’s worth the price. Let’s start the Under Armour Curry 4 Low review!

I suggest you check out my Curry 4 Mid review first just to get a better idea of the comparison. This review will mostly cover the differences between the two ’cause they’re very similar.

THE TECH

EVA FOAM

The same deal with the cushion setup is back on the low version, meaning that UA doesn’t really tell us what kind of actual foam is on the Curry 4.

Their description says it’s EVA foam but that’s just a general guideline that doesn’t really tell much. What matters to the player though, is how it feels and performs, and that’s what we are gonna find out in the Performance section.

FIT

A MUCH TIGHTER FIT

A MUCH TIGHTER FIT

The whole fit aspect of the low is the biggest difference from the mid top. There’s obviously no more ankle collar and the low cut itself is EXTREMELY low, one of the lowest low top shoes I’ve ever played in. Shoes like that sometimes don’t feel right but this one’s not the case.

First of all, the shoe fits super tight and snug, so any kind of wide footer should consider going up half a size. Regular/narrow footers, if you prefer a very snug, locked-in feel, stick with your true size. Otherwise, you can also try going up a bit and see how they play.

This whole thing is weird since the mid was fantastic for wide footers. This one does have a shorter break-in period thanks to a slightly different upper but doesn’t feel as soft, mobile and comfortable as the mid top in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s still a pretty good fitting shoe, I didn’t experience any major setbacks but I guess it’s just not my cup of tea, especially ’cause I’m a wide footer and mid tops are usually my choice of weapon.

PERFORMANCE

CUSHION

We have the exact same cushion setup as on the Curry 4 Mid, so I won’t go into great detail here.

In a nutshell, this is a pretty minimalistic setup that emphasizes court feel, responsiveness, stability and speed, while still providing a fair amount of impact protection and step comfort to not make you feel like you’re in Kyrie 2’s. This isn’t the shoe for you if you’re looking for something very bouncy and BOOST-like.

TRACTION

Once again, the same outsole is used on the low, so expect the same fantastic traction, no matter what court you play on. These weren’t that sensitive to dust for me, I did wipe but not too often, so it’s not something I had to think about.

The rubber compound doesn’t look to heavy-duty, so outdoor play is most likely out of the picture for a true street baller.

SUPPORT

You obviously shouldn’t expect superb ankle lockdown and support from a low top but the Curry 4 Low does lock your foot in and makes you feel very stable and confident no matter what you do. And all that without taking clunkiness and discomfort out of the picture.

Basically, if you’re looking to stay very quick, mobile and light on your feet, without feeling clunky or restricted, give these a go. They won’t protect your ankles but should they?

UPPER

SLIGHTLY TWEAKED

The upper on the Curry 4 Low is slightly different from the mid and most people should like the changes. It’s now a soft knit throughout the whole shoe with a very minimalistic synthetic overlay in some key areas to protect the knit.

I could go more in depth but all you need to know is the low top feels a bit lighter, softer and overall more comfortable (if strictly looking at the comfort given from the upper). If you want more of a minimal and softer approach than go with the low top if you can get past the fit weirdness of the low.

OVERALL

BEST FOR QUICK AND LIGHT GUARDS

I can’t really say which of the two are better since they’re just different. If you want more of a traditional experience with a solid, more roomy and less in-your-face fit, than the Mid should do the trick.

If you’re more of a low top fan and somehow like the overexaggerated fit, the Low might be an option for you.

BEST FOR QUICK AND LIGHT GUARDS

+ SUPERB TRACTION
+ LIGHTWEIGHT SUPPORT
+ QUALITY UPPER
A VERY TIGHT FIT EVEN AFTER A BREAK-IN PERIOD
WOULDN’T LAST OUTDOORS

Okay, that’s it for the review! I hope you found it useful!
