The Adidas AM4 series shoes is what happens when fashion and tech collide. These shoes are the proud product of Adidas’ first robotic factory in Germany called the Speedfactory. The cutting-edge facility allows shoes to be created with greater precision, speed and responsiveness. The Adidas AM4 shoes are made for runners, featuring six models that reflect six of the world’s largest cities: London, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Shanghai. Every shoe design reflects the unique running conditions found in the cities.
First released by Adidas was the Adidas Made for London shoe (AM4LDN), which was released October 19, 2017; then followed by Adidas Made for Paris (AM4PAR) shoe released the following week.
The AM4LDN, as well as the other shoes in this series, features patch reinforcement support; foot-hugging Primeknit textile upper with engineered ventilation zones; and an enhanced grip outsole for better grip on city surfaces. The shoe rides atop Adidas BOOST energy return technology that provides an energized push-off with each foot strike. It comes with a Speedfactory floating Torsion bar for lightweight stability and flexibility. This system is designed to “float” inside the sole without the stiffness of glue. It also has advanced technology, such as the NFC chip in the tongue of the shoe, enabling the wearer to pair the shoe with his/her smartphone to enhance running experience.
AM4LDN was first launched in grey color, inspired by the streets of London. It has blue patch reinforcement strips, and a red sock-liner inside to reflect the city lights and sunsets. The colors are visible even in low-light conditions. It is designed to embrace the running conditions faced by runners in London, considering the city streets and its weather conditions.
The AM4PAR has the same technological features with the AM4LDN, but is tailored to suit female runners more. The shoe has a marbled and muted pink tone to pay tribute to the statuesque nature of Paris. It’s also designed to suit varying running conditions in Paris like asphalt, concrete, cobbles and grass.
For New York City, Adidas released the Made for New York City shoe (AM4NYC) last April 26, 2018. It has the most straightforward colorway of the AMF series, featuring a tonal black Primeknit upper with silver detailing on the laces. This design was fine-tuned for running in New York City, with an all-black color scheme to hide dirt, and some reflective element so it can be seen by drivers at night. It also has the same features with the previous AM4 series shoes.
Next released on the bunch was the Made for Los Angeles shoe (AM4LA), which was available since May 25, 2018. This was assembled at Adidas’ Speedfactory in the USA outside of Atlanta. This is also Speedfactory’s first running shoe made with Parley Ocean plastic. Besides the AM4 tech features, the AM4LA are made of 100% recycled upper made of yarns recycled out of plastic bottles retrieved from coastal areas. According to Adidas, each pair of this shoe prevents an equivalent of 11 plastic bottles from polluting our oceans and seas. The shoe has a light blue colorway with Adidas’ trademark three stripes.
Two months after the launch of AM4LA, Adidas released the Made for Shanghai shoe (AM4SH). It has the sleekest colorway, as its Primeknit upper features a striped pattern of the colors black, steel gray and deep green hue. It has a handful of black support taping to the sides that add a striped look from the center all the way to the toes. It’s midsole is plain white.
The latest shoes in the AM4 installment is the Adidas Made for Tokyo shoe (AM4TKY). Dressed primarily in white, black and gray, this runner calls upon quick hits of infrared for additional color, as well as a reflective aesthetic, perfect for helping a runner light up the night reflecting Tokyo’s beautiful night colors. It is designed to protect the wearer while jogging through the wide-ranging terrains of Tokyo’s streets.
The earlier shoes, the AM$LDN and AM4PAR already have other iterations that are already released.
