adidas Dame 3 REVIEW: Can It Beat the Awesome Lillard 2?

Looks like we got drastic changes from the last Lillard shoe on the outside. The D Lillard 2.0 was an amazing deal for every player out there and I have high expectations for the third one. So after really taking my time with this one, here’s my adidas Dame 3 review.

I’ll talk about the shoe’s tech specs, performance, comfort, materials and decide it it’s worth the price. Let’s start the adidas Dame 3 review!

THE TECH

adidas Dame 3 REVIEW: SideBOUNCE

We got the exact same setup, full-length BOUNCE foam that’s awesome. It’s affordable and it’s well-balanced.

FUSEDMESH

That’s how adidas calls the shoe’s upper. It’s an interesting mix with strategically reinforced areas to make for one awesome experience on foot. More on that later.

FIT

AWESOME, BUT GO HALF A SIZE DOWN

So the shoe is really f**king comfortable because of that great upper, confident lockdown & containment and just generally how your foot feels inside the shoe.

I would say go down half a size just I said in the Lillard 2.0 review. They fit a bit long but as long as you go down, the fit itself is awesome and didn’t bring up any problems.

The construction doesn’t look narrow at all and the upper is flexible, so I would say wide footers should definitely try these out by going true to size.

PERFORMANCE

adidas Dame 3 REVIEW: TopCUSHION

BOUNCE feels just like on the last D Lillard – awesome. The key feature is its superb balance that not many cushions offer. It’s bouncy and offers plenty of impact protection but doesn’t compromise response and still gives you some court feel in the forefoot area.

It’s a sick cushion setup that feels almost as good as BOOST in my opinion. Most players could try these out because of their versatility and balance.

TRACTION

So we got the “blade” traction pattern that looks extremely aggressive and dense. But it performs really and I mean REALLY well. It does look dense and even smaller than the Lillard 2.0 but it’s not as sensitive to dust. Grips the floor perfectly no matter the movement, it will work just fine on dusty courts with some wiping here and there.

It’s not continental rubber anymore BUT I still think the rubber looks fairly strong. Lillard’s shoes have that “street” theme to it so I think you should try playing in them outdoors.adidas Dame 3 REVIEW: Outsole

SUPPORT

Once again, absolutely great. All the features you’d need are implemented well, great lockdown & containment and a sturdy upper.

We have a rubber cage on the sides, an internal heel counter, a midfoot shank, a small outrigger and a wide base. Plus, that customizable lacing system will make sure to accommodate you exactly how you want. Superb support on the Dame 3.

UPPER

adidas Dame 3 REVIEW: Toebox
MESH & TPU BLEND – IT’S GREAT

The upper is what they call FUSEDMESH and it’s exactly that – mesh coated with TPU. In result, you get a comfortable, flexible, breathable, supportive AND a durable setup. It doesn’t sound premium on paper at all.

But damn, it feels and plays great. Seriously, you don’t always need Primeknit to call a shoe premium.

PRICE VS. QUALITY

The shoe retails at $115 which is a $10 increase from the second. But it doesn’t even matter – the shoe either improved or stayed the same in all performance aspects.

You get A LOT for this price. Quality definitely wins here.

FINAL VERDICT

The adidas DAME 3 is an amazing shoe that slightly improved in almost all areas from the Lillard 2.0. What more could you want.

Comfortable, balanced cushion, great traction, killer support and a great upper.

Any guard or even forward will definitely find these to be awesome. $115 is a joke compared to today’s competition.

adidas Dame 3 REVIEW: Tongue+ A SUPERB, WELL-BALANCED CUSHION SETUP
+ GREAT TRACTION, NOT SENSITIVE TO DUST
+ KILLER SUPPORT WITH ALL THE FEATURES NEEDED
NO CONTINENTAL RUBBER, SO THE TRACTION WON’T BE AS DURABLE

Nice Review! If I wear a 10 on D Rose 7 Primeknit, should I go for a 10 on these as well?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

I think you should go down half a size in these. So if your regular is a 10, go for a 9.5. UNLESS you’re a wide footer. Then go true to size.

      1. Paul says:

Thanks for the answer. One more question, if you were able to get this dame 3 or hyperdunk flyknit for the same price, which would you get?

        1. Julius Kralikas says:

I’d definitely go with the Dame . I like the cushion on it more and it’s just a more well-rounded shoe in my opinion.

  2. LED says:

would you get the Dame 3 over the CrazyLight Boost 2016? and what about the hyperdunk 2016 low?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

I personally would take the Dame 3 out of the three. All three are awesome shoes but the Dame 3 is I think the most balanced and would suit most players.

  3. Johnnyboy says:

How did you like the cushioning in the forefoot? An issue I have with most Adidas models these days is that although the heel cushion is great, their forefoot cushion is usually stiff and oriented to be responsive and low to the ground (and sacrifices the bounciness and some impact protection). In the pictures for these it looks like the forefoot was thinned out vs. the Lillard 2 as well.

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

Yeah, adidas definitely has this pattern of bouncy heel cushion and firm forefoot cushion. I mean it’s honestly very similar to the D Lillard 2.0. It’s the same setup in a different construction. I personally didn’t feel like the forefoot cushion was FIRM, it was definitely firmer than the heel but I didn’t find in shitty. Basically if you played in the Lillard 2.0, the Dame 3 will feel very similar.

  4. PM says:

Which would you prefer, Dame 3’s or the CE lows? I’m a defense-first big, and being a big, cushioning is a big factor for me(since my knees hurt a LOT after playing). Next big factor is traction and since I play on my toes/forefoot a lot, that part of my shoes tend to burn out the fast. I really wanted to get the CE lows because they seem perfect for a big(and they look very dope) but according to review, the traction of the CE tends to burn out really quick. I play at rubberized courts, and which of the two shoes would you recommend for me?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

I’d still recommend the CE Low. It’s just a better fit for a big overall, especially because of BOOST. It will burn out faster than some durable outdoor shoe but it’s not terrible. Especially if you play on a rubberized court (which is a softer than regular concrete).

I would go with the CE Low and see how it goes.

  5. Adam B. says:

I just bought a pair of the Nike Zoom Rev 2017 but i’m not convinced (yet to ball in them yet just having second thoughts). I love a bouncy feel with good traction and support. After reading some reviews on the dame lillard 3’s, i’m considering making the switch. Which would you choose out of the two (p.s. i’m a catch-and-shoot 2-guard who also enjoys playing D).

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

I would go for the Dame 3 since it’s a beastly all-around shoe. Simple as that. I liked the Rev 2017, but this one is just simply better in all ways, especially for my playstyle.

  6. Carlo says:

Im thinking of really getting the dame 3 this week but torned between them kyries, im a 1 who goes for allot of stop and pops running around give and go’s which shoe should i get for under 120 bucks, or would you recommend any other shoes than those 2?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

Just get the Dame 3 and you’ll forget all the other shoes. I personally think it’s a shoe that almost anybody could play in with great comfort. You do lots of give and go’s, cuts, stops etc. This is definitely a great shoe for that and not only.

  7. hoangphuc.vo says:

Will this outsole as durable as the Lebron Soldier 9? Dame 3 vs Lebron Soldier 9, who will win?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

It’s hard to compare those two ’cause they both kinda sit between indoor and outdoor durability, I’d say the Soldier 9 would last longer purely based on my prediction. In terms of overall performance, I like the Dame 3 more because of the cushion and fit.

      1. hoangphuc.vo says:

Should I go down to 10us on this pair? I went true to size 10.5 us in the nike zoom structure running shoe, I’m a widefooter but I didn’t feel uncomfortable on that, would it feel the same on the Dame 3?

        1. Julius Kralikas says:

As a wide footer, I recommend going true to size with these.

  8. Slobo says:

Should i get Dame 3 or Dame 4? I like the 3s more. Also i wear at adidas stan smith should i buy the same size?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

I love both of them, for you, it’ll depend if you want a bit more structure on the upper. If you do, get the Dame 3. If you’d like a bit of a lighter feel, go with the 4.

  9. john loftus says:

Is the forefoot bouncier/softer than the D lillard 2?

    1. Julius Kralikas says:

It’s extremely similar. The Dame 4 does have a firmer setup than the last two, but the 2 and 3 felt almost identical.
