Nike Air VaporMax 95

Giving a modern take on the “Neon” Air Max 95, the Nike Air Vapormax 95 was released. Combining the upper of the classic Air Max 95 and the tooling of VaporMax, this hybrid runner sneakers was one of the VaporMax hybrids that Nike has released in 2018.

The iconic design by Sergio Lozano’s Air Max sneaker of 1995 is chunky and bulky, but it provided ample arch support and lightweight feel for the feet. This made up the upper and cushion of this 2018 iteration. The original sole was swapped out with the revolutionary Air Vapormax multi-bubble, cushioning for the sole.

The shades of gray panels, volt accents and mesh netting from the original have been carried over. The famous Swoosh appears on the back quarter of the shoe, the Air Max logo appears on the tongue, and the Nike Air branding is placed on the shoe’s heel.

The Air Max 95 Backstory

During the late 1970’s the revolutionary Air Sole technology of Nike was created. After nine years, the Air Max 1 was born. It was a groundbreaking release that time, as it was the first sneaker to feature a visible air unit on the shoe’s heel. But Nike was determined to push further innovation for the brand.

A trained industrial engineer named Sergio Lozano lead a team that created the Air Max 95, a running shoe that boars of improved performance and individuality. The design of the shoe was inspired by the striations in the Grand Canyon and the process of rain eroding the earth. The silhouette was the first to feature a black midsole, an unconcealed air forefoot unit and a Swoosh-less exterior. It was met with resistance due to its unconventional design, yet the team also wanted to release it in a gray colorway, which was an unpopular color back then.

Eventually, the team added a minimal branding to the shoe’s controversial silhouette, and through lots of perseverance, the Air Max became a hit not just among runners but also among the youth. It became a fashion staple throughout the US, Europe and Australia.

Since 1995, the Air Max 95 continues to be an iconic sneaker with over 150 colorways released. It’s still one of the fans’ favorite sneaker line, with Nike capitalizing on its popularity by releasing a modernized, hybrid version which was the Air VaporMax 95.
