The Nike Moon Racer is a lifestyle sneaker that has a hybrid concept and a one-of-a-kind style. It’s one of those sneakers where the past meets the present, as it was inspired from Nike’s retro classics and combined Nike’s React technology that makes up the midsole foam.
Nike Moon Racer debuted in August 2018, but it was largely inspired from the Nike Moon shoe that was released in 1972. The latter was a prototype of the Nike Waffle Trainer. Only around a dozen Moon shoes were produced, and it was handmade by Geoff Hollister made with Bill Bowerman’s waffle sole.
The upper of the new Moon Racer had a lot of similarities to the original Nike Moon. The Moon was named after the unique outsole tread pattern that resembled the astronaut’s footprints left on the surface of the moon in 1969. The upper is made of nylon or a comparable soft material, layered with suede around the eyestay, heel and lateral toe side, a ribbon piece at the toe and an external heel flap that sits above the curvy midsole. Then the branding was seen with a huge, leather Swoosh on each side, and the leather pull tab at the heel. Meanwhile, the insole has lunar and retro-inspired graphics.
Meanwhile, the midsole of the Nike Moon Racer is also similar to another Nike shoe, the recently released Vapor Street Flyknit. The Vapor Street Flyknit is made largely from the React Foam, so the Moon racer is also made of a Nike React midsole.
The shoe’s overall aesthetic is unique and attention-grabbing. You can pair this sneakers with casual stapes like jeans, shorts and joggers to make a stylish ensemble. Users love that it’s breathable, ultra-cushiony and true to its size. Its thick sole can also add a bit of height.
