Paying homage to the past, Puma Thunder Desert became one of the best “dad shoes” that the German sportswear brand has released so far. Puma Thunder Desert is inspired by the ‘90s Cell System running silhouette and the brand’s McQueen collaboration, but reimagined to add a bulky, modern dad shoe aesthetic.
Thunder Desert is one of the newest additions to the Thunder series, in line with the multicolored Thunder Spectra and the daring Thunder Electric. All these sneakers have nearly the same silhouettes, but they differ in tooling and color blocking. The Puma Thunder series is usually vibrant and flashy, but Thunder Desert is the most subdued of the three. It features neutral tones and muted colors for a classy look.
The shoe is a chunky running sneaker that has a high-end look. Its sleek upper is made of mesh and suede, with metallic details around the lacing eyelet. A muted snakeskin detailing is present in the formstripe, heel and lower throat, adding a subtle yet luxurious touch. It features the extra-thick EVA midsole for a lightweight and comfortable feel on the feet. There are pull tabs on the tongue for easier wear.
Released on August 2, 2018, the first two renditions of the Puma Thunder Desert are designed for women. One comes with a creamy, Vanchetta Tan, and the other in mint green variety. A week after, the normally colorful Puma Thunder series released two tonal colorways to add to the Thunder Desert line: one white-gray and one all-black sneaker.
