Bicycling at Hilton Head Island
Keen on spending your holidays in luxury? Then you should visit Hilton Head Island. It is one of the most beautiful towns in South Carolina. Once you get here, you will be greeted by lovely beaches, championship-grade golf courses, and beautiful bicycling trails.
For those who are keen on familiarizing themselves with the local wildlife, there is the Pinckney National Wildlife Refuge. It is the perfect place to take pictures of a number of a variety of different species of plants and animals.
Sightseeing at Fort Sumter
The attack on Fort Sumter marks the beginning of the American Civil War. Now, what used to be a federal fort guarding Charleston Harbor is a great place to visit if you want to get a better understanding of the history of the Civil War.
You can visit the island where the ruins of the fort are by boat from either Patriots Point or the Visitor Education Center at Liberty Square. If you are keen on spending more than an hour on a boat, you can also take a 90-minute tour along the Cooper River.
Birdwatching at the Huntington Beach State Park
Is birdwatching one of your hobbies? If that is the case, you’d better not forget about visiting Huntington Beach State Park. This area is home to over 300 bird species, some of which are either really rare or endangered. Because of that, it is perceived as one of the best birding locations in South Carolina!
The park is very crowded in the summer, which may make your bird watching experience a whole lot worse. So, plan on visiting from late August to early May in order to avoid having to deal with hordes of tourists.
Hiking in the Caesars Head State Park
Want to go for a hike and take some lovely pictures of the local flora and fauna? Then you are surely going to have a great time in the Caesars Head State Park! If you decide to go along the Raven Cliff Falls hiking trail, you will eventually get to see the tallest waterfall in South Carolina.
On top of that, the escarpments here attract a bunch of hawks every year. Not a fan of birdwatching? Well, you can always set up camp at one of the numerous campsites or go fishing in one of the local fishing rivers.

Even if you expect quite a lot out of your holidays, South Carolina is guaranteed to deliver! After all, there are so many things in that state that you can end up doing. Such a wide selection of possible choices makes getting bored basically impossible.
However, keep in mind that if you are going there for a very limited amount of time, it would be best to focus on the tourist attractions that interest you the most. For example, if you are not a big fan of hiking and prefer going to museums, you might want to forget about that trip to the Caesars Head State Park and visit Charleston’s Historic District instead!
Remember, just because a number of tourist guides recommend visiting ten different parks in the area, it does not mean that you should visit any of them. Everyone likes different things. Forcing yourself to go somewhere just because other people say it is totally worth it is very likely to end up being a massive flop.
