As a follow-up to LeBron James’ famous EQUALITY sneakers, NBA star Kyrie Irving has introduced the Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” edition. These shoes are also a manifestation of Irving’s own relentless quest to be the best in everything he does, whether he is on and off the court. Irving believes that sports is a platform for change. He lifts the voices of people who have inspired him while urging the next generation to lift and use their own voices for positive causes. And so the Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” is a celebration of Kyrie’s endless pursuit for equality, as well as his own way of honoring the achievements, actions and progress made by people who have same goals as he has.
The Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” was released on January 15, 2018, which was a month’s shy of the upcoming Black History Month (which explains the “BHM” in the sneaker’s name). Fittingly, the said release date also coincided with Martin Luther King Day. It debuted at a retail price of $120.
The Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” is, for sure, arresting on the eyes because of its striking design. It features a white upper with the words “Equality,” printed in black, all over it. The green, black and red striped outsole completes this shoe’s unique look.
Like the Kyrie 1, the Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” has the dinosaur teeth-like traction on the sides. These shoes can be perfect for you if you feel that “fierce animal” vibe. The Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” also makes a mean street fashion statement.
In terms of performance, the Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” seems to focus more on making quick moves on the hardcourt. It’s mainly due to the deep grooves on the shoe’s outsole. Apart from that, the Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” offers more cushioning compared to those of the previous iterations. Still, it maintains much of the Kyrie line’s extended traction and curved edges.
Overall, the Kyrie 4 “BHM” is not bad for its price. It will do quite well as a performance sneaker. You may find the overall look of this shoe quite menacing (in a good way), or a bit too “busy,” depending on how you look at it. But if you’re looking for a pair of shoes which focuses on making those quick crossover moves on the court and more importantly, spreads the message of equality and positive changes, then the Nike Kyrie 4 “BHM” might be the ideal kicks for you.
